- Birthdays and Baby Celebrations
August is a big birthday month in our family. Mom's Birthday is Aug 14 (she turned 80 this year!). Ramon's birthday is the 23rd, Ramon's dad is the 26th and Dad's is the 28th (also turned 80 this year). We celebrated Mom by going to the Spyglass in and walking along the bluffs. We celebrated Ramon by first having a BBQ at the Thomases. We also went out to lunch just the two of us and later went out to dinner with friends. We weren't able to be with our dads on the their birthdays but celebrated with them from afar.
I got to celebrate the coming arrival of our little boy with some friends at Opal restaurant. There is a lot to celebrate these days!
- Fiesta
We had a great Fiesta weekend. We started by watching our favorite Fiesta performer, Natalia Perea. We have been watching her perform the last 12 years. We also had a great time at Ramon's office party and the Horse Parade. Caleb was in his first children's parade with his PEP buddies. We ended the weekend with lunch at Our Lady of Guadalupe. It was a great weekend.
- 4th of July
We started the 4th off by going to the pancake breakfast at the Montecito Fire Department. Caleb loved it! He got to climb in and explore the fire engines. Caleb's buddies Asher and Beck ended up coming too so that was extra fun.
We also had a BBQ at our house and walked down to see the fireworks from Shoreline Park. This was the first year that Caleb was really excited to see them. It was a great 4th!
- Mom & Dad's 80th Birthday Celebration in Utah
To celebrate Mom and Dad's 80th birthdays we gathered the family in Utah for a family reunion. We had a great time in Deer Valley laughing, playing, making forts, swimming, alpine sliding, and riding Mim's horse, just to name a few things. Some even went jet skiing, sailing and tubing at a nearby lake. We also had a great time looking at pictures from the past thanks to Dad's slide show. It was a fun celebration!
- Dinner With the Holts
We had a fun dinner at Sal's with the Holts, Draytons and Hui's. The Hui's had to leave before we could document their being with us. We miss you Holts and hope you move back to SB someday! Thanks Rashun for the photos!

Due to some weekend trips, Caleb got to celebrate his birthday on a few days over a few weeks... lucky guy!

April was full of babies, birthdays, a wedding, hiking around the Botanic Gardens and the zoo, and a visit to Sunnyvale for Annie.
- Exercising
Well unlike his daddy, Caleb's Granny (Granny Gupta) is very consistent about doing her stretching and other exercises every morning. Turns out Caleb wants to follow her fine example!
- Talking about the Zoo
- Auntie Maya's Visit
Auntie Maya came for a visit the first weekend of March. We went to the park, played around the house and visited the Harbor Seals at Carpinteria's State Beach. It was a great weekend!
- January and February
- Auntie Mim Comes for the Weekend!
While Ramon was at Mammoth on a guy's ski trip, Auntie Mim and Grandma and Grandpa Trelstad came to visit. Grandma had fallen and broken her foot so we took it easy except for a fun visit to the zoo. She was a trooper and drove around in a motorized wheel chair so she didn't miss out on any of the fun.
- Fun Play Dates in January
We are so thankful for our little friends. We had a great month of zoo visits, going to the Natural History Museum and even the beach.
- Granny and Grandpa Gupta New Year's Visit
Granny and Grandpa Gupta came back for another quick visit for New Year's weekend. We had a great time visiting the butterfly preserve and spending time together.
- Congratulations Jonathan & Krysti!
Jonathan & Krysti got engaged just before Christmas!
They came to visit us with Mim and we got to celebrate together. We even pulled off an engagement party with the McGowens and Grandma and Grandpa Trelstad. It was a fun celebration. We can't wait for the wedding! :)
- Seal watching from the Carpinteria Bluffs
We took advantage of the gorgeous weather and headed to see the harbor seals from the Carpinteria Bluffs. We met up with the Thomas family and Cari, Hannah and Hailey. It was a fun adventure. We topped it off with a hot dog lunch at the famous Surf Dog hot dog vendor nearby. Definitely recommend it!
- Christmas
We had a great Christmas weekend with Granny and Grandpa Gupta, Gradma and Grandpa Trelstad and Maya and Jim
- Little Architect; Live Nativity
- December Fun
- O' Christmas Tree
Our third annual visit to Lane Farms to select a Christmas Tree. Caleb had a blast visiting the animals, throwing hay around, and going on the California sleigh ride (more of a tractor pulled hay ride, but we'll take what we can get).
- Santa and the Christmas Parade
- "I'm two and a half!"
- Happy Birthday David!
- Photos by Lauren Belknap
One of Caleb's babysitters is also a student at Brooks (School of Photography) and just happened to have a "photograph a family with a 2 and half year-old" assignment - lucky us! Thanks for the great pictures Lauren!
- San Francisco and Sunnyvale
We went on a little family get-a-way to San Francisco for a few days. On the way we met my parents at the Avila Barn and fed the animals, did the hay maze and had lunch. We spent the next 3 says in the city. We got to see some fun friends and be a little touristy too. On the way home we visited Marlene and Carl (and Sutter) in Sunnyvale. It was a great long weekend!
- Pumpkin Patch and Halloween Fun
- September and October Birthdays
In September we celebrated Mindy, Phoebe, Greg and Graham. We celebrated Harper, Matt and Annie in October. Here are some of the photos from those gatherings. We are thankful for great friends and another year of living life together!

The Rapos came up for Homecoming weekend at Westmont. It was so fun to be together and see old friends. Benjamin and Caleb had a blast together too.
- September Granny & Grandpa Gupta Visit
- Fall is here with pumpkins and apples
Fall is officially here. We tried growing pumpkins and only one survived. It's small but made Caleb's day.
We also celebrated Labor Day by going with the Thomas family to Los Olivos to pick apples. It was a fun time with friends (topped off with our favorite picnic spot--Panino!).
- Tomatoes and Butterflies
This summer we grew tomatoes and raised Monarch butterflies. Caleb loved picking the "mamies" and had fun watching the "orange butterflies" emerge from their mysterious chrysalis.
- Summertime: Baby David, Zoo Trips, etc
- August Birthdays and Family Fun
We had fun in Solvang with Grandma and Grandpa Trelstad for a belated Father's Day celebration. We also enjoyed celebrating Mom, Dad and Ramon's birthdays this August. We are thankful for family and special times to be together.
- Remembering Claire...
Our sweet friend Claire passed away this August and we miss her dearly. She will always be remembered as a thoughtful, fun friend and faithful prayer warrior. She loved people so well. We felt so blessed to have known such a special person with the most beautiful smile and the most contagious laugh. Claire had an amazing ability to find joy in life even as she battled cancer for 10 years. Her sense of humor carried us through. Her faith in God was evident in all she did and in all she endured. We are so thankful for the time we had with Claire. We miss her.
- Utah Trip
We spontaneously met up with Mark, Tammi, Nathan, Alec, Mim and Jeff in Utah just after our Oregon trip. It was the first time The Minnesota Trelstads met Caleb so it was a special trip.
We had a great time playing, swimming, and just hanging out together. We even got to hear Randy Travis in concert from the hot tub on our patio. It was a great trip!
- Cannon Beach 2010
We had a great time meeting up at Cannon Beach with Grandpa and Granny Gupta and lots of old friends. Caleb loved running around on the sand, making sand castles (or tearing them down), looking for bunny rabbits and spending time with family and friends.
- Sending off the Smiths and The Frohlings
We loved seeing the Smiths this summer just before they left for their new home in China. Both Amy and Matt are teaching at a school there. What an adventure!
This summer was also bittersweet as our good friends the Frohlings moved to Argentina. Caleb loves all the "Fro-Fro" boys and talks about them daily as he plays with the many toys they gave him. We miss them but we are so excited to see how God will use them for His glory there!
- Summer Homegroup Fun!
We've had a great time playing with our Homegroup this summer. Here are some fun pictures of our creative Wednesdays. Some of the events include a game night at the Wilsons, an athletic competition at the Mission lawn, and a nice hike on the beach. We are so blessed to spend each week with such quality friends!
- Fez No
Over our 6th anniversary weekend we headed to Fez No (as Caleb says it) to celebrate Paul and Mari's wedding.
Paul was in a high school small group I led while he was a junior and senior. It has been a blessing to stay in touch with him over all these years and get to know his bride. They are a great match and Annie and I are thrilled for them.
Since we don't get to Fresno too often, in addition to the Saturday evening wedding festivities, we took the opportunity to visit Grandpa and Grandma Trelstad on the way in Santa Maria, saw best friend Barb for her Birthday dinner and, of course, went to the circus (turns out that when it's about 105 degrees outside nothing beats the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus in an air conditioned arena).
- Independence Day Weekend
A great few days with friends
- Grandpa and Grandma Visit
Caleb had a great time running around with Grandpa Trelstad when they stopped by after being gone for a month to Utah and Minnesota.

We had a great day celebrating Daddy with a good breakfast, hiking Rattlesnake Trail (luckily no rattlesnakes) and dinner with the Wolfe-Lyons family.
- David Joseph Thomas Baby Shower
We had a fun time celebrating with the Thomas family. We can't wait to meet baby David!

Caleb's birthday celebrations began in Seattle and continued on his actual birthday, June 3. It was an unforgettable day of penguins, giraffes (and feeding them), cupcakes and friends at the zoo, and dinner with friends.
- Seattle Visit - Memorial Day Weekend
We had a great time visiting with family and friends in very wet Seattle. Caleb loved playing with Granny and Grandpa, visiting the aquarium and the ducks at the Cove, seeing friends and Auntie Maya.
- May Birthdays and Ducks

- April
- Nellermoes visit Santa Barbara
Mim, Jeff and Rebekah came to Santa Barbara for Spring Break. We loved having them here. Some of the highlights were: playing at the beach, pizza at Rusty's, going to the zoo, and playing "Chicken Foot" dominoes. It was so great to have them here!
- Easter Festivities
We had a great Easter weekend full of family, friends and fun Easter traditions. We began by coloring Easter eggs toddler style. On Saturday we had an Easter egg hunt with the Thomas family and Granny and Grandpa Gupta on Saturday. On Easter we celebrated the best gift of all-Jesus's resurrection. Our church meets at the lagoon at UCSB every Easter--it was beautiful but cold. After church we had friends and family over for brunch. It also happened to be Lauren Thomas's birthday. My nephew Jonathan came through town with some college buddies for a few hours too. It was a great day of celebrating!
- Happy Birthday Granny!
Granny and Grandpa Gupta came to visit for Granny's birthday. We went down to the Harbor, walked along the beach and to the Sea Center. It was Caleb's first time. He loved it. We rode the "Little Toot" boat back to the harbor. We had a great time together!

It was a great weekend --full of fresh fruit, puzzles, books, fun 7th anniversary double date, and a beach walk.
- Rainy Day
Playing in the rain!
- No More Cast!
The cast is off after 3 weeks. Not too bad, but we're thankful to have it off! Caleb was a bit traumatized by the loud saw and then was sad to have the cast off. I guess he had grown more attached to it than we realized. He got over it quickly though.
- Caleb's Dedication
Sunday, February 21st, Caleb and his buddy Daniel were both dedicated at our church. Thankfully both boys were on their best behavior. It was a special day.
- Valentine's Celebrations
- New Glasses
Turns out a different size is a better fit...
- Rough and Tumble
Last Wednesday Caleb decided to try crib diving after his nap. He was not particularly successful and fractured his arm. We were hopeful that the Orthopedic Pediatrician would just tell us that there was nothing that could be done... we were wrong. Because our rough and tumble little man is very likely to hurt the healing bone much worse if we just let time pass, Caleb now has a nice blue addition.
Our little guy is handling it quite well so far. I think that the fact the bone is basically kept from being nudged or moved is actually preventing a lot of the pain he was dealing with until now. I figure he's getting over all the tough stuff now and it'll be smooth sailing hereafter...
- Caleb's new glasses
Caleb got his glasses this afternoon. He is still getting used to wearing them. At first he didn't seem to like them much, but after awhile he was willing to keep them on. It's obvious that he can see better with them on. He was looking at things in our house as if he had never seen the detail before. We are thankful that the glasses will help him to see better.

- Hanging out With Daniel and Ashley
Mommy didn't know it, but last time Daniel and I hung out we decided we would get together at a new park on Wednesday the 25th. I tried to tell Mommy about these plans but the message wasn't getting across and she was trying with all her might to get me to take a nap. Luckily Daniel was more successful with his Mommy and a phone call was made to tell my Mommy that today was the 25th - the day for the new park! Thank goodness I didn't take a nap - the new park was awesome! Till Later, Caleb

- Crawling!
Caleb started officially crawling this week. Check it out! :)
- Congratulations Auntie Maya!
In a prophetic sort of way, today we decided Caleb should put on his UW purple and gold sweatsuit. It wasn't a Husky game day, just an out of the ordinary rainy Monday in Santa Barbara. This evening, we found out Caleb's Auntie Maya got notified that she has received tenure as a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the UW! Congrats Sis! Your big brother, sister-in-law and favorite nephew are super proud! Perhaps one day Caleb will take one of your classes ... Go Huskies!

- Granny Gupta's December Visit
While Grandpa Gupta was in India (he's back safe and sound now in very chilly Seattle) Granny Gupta made a special trip to see me in Santa Barbara. I had a bit of a cough and was feeling out of sorts (actually every day I feel different like I'm changing by the minute), but we had a lot of fun together nonetheless with some shopping, a walk in the park and fun meals together (I've graduated to butternut squash, sweet potatoes and rice cereal - amazing stuff).
While, Granny, Mom and Dad and their friend Lawrence from Singapore went to the Nutcracker I got to spend time with Krista and the Frohling guys. I always get the giggles when I hang out with the Frohlings.
Granny and I got to spend an evening together - - - we were having so much fun watching a truck video and playing that I tried with all my might to stay up the whole time mommy and daddy were out. I was pretty successful in that I only slept a 1/2 hour all evening. I figured: Granny was only going to be here for a couple days so I should do my best to give her a lot of time to hold me and coo with me - fun times!
- Santa, Christmas Parade, and Christmas Tree Hunt
Caleb met Santa (Ben Patterson) for the first time at Westmont's annual Christmas Pickle Tree Lighting Ceremony. We had a great time at the Christmas Parade (our 5 year anniversary of being engaged!). We also had fun picking out our Christmas tree at Lane Farms.

Our Thanksgiving celebration started with the annual ISI Thanksgiving dinner. Our friend Lawrence from Singapore came along and brought a friend. The Thomas family joined us for dessert on Thanksgiving day. We had a great time!

Caleb enjoys walks with mom & dad and naps at PEP with friends.
- Fun With Friends
On the way home from Idyllwild we visited the Fishers in Upland. Perin and Lucy played with Caleb so well. Caleb loved meeting Marcia, Jim, and Lynn too. It was a fun way to break up the trip home!
Later in the week Greg, Corey, Lauren, and Matthew came over for dinner. Lauren held Caleb for the first time. He was so content in her arms. Matthew gave Caleb his pacifier when he was sad. He was so proud of being able to calm him down that he gave his dad high-fives.
